So <strong>always remember to use a pressing cloth<\/strong> when you press on the fleece side during construction steps<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The only fusible fleece which supports direct ironing is, to my knowledge, the <strong>Thermolam \u00ae Plus Fusible Fleece<\/strong> (which is not available in France, only its sew-in version is).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fusible fleece is available in different thicknesses<\/strong>. From Vilene\/Vlieseline you&#8217;ll find two references: the H640 and H630. The H640 is the thicker of the two. The price of these interfacings is high and there are often <strong>much cheaper generic substitutes in stores<\/strong> that you can use with pretty much the same result.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1974\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1974\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sacotin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/tuto-molleton-thermocollant2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1974 \" src=\"http:\/\/sacotin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/tuto-molleton-thermocollant2.jpg\" alt=\"De gauche \u00e0 droite : Vlieseline H640, Vlieseline H630 et molleton thermocollant g\u00e9n\u00e9rique\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sacotin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/tuto-molleton-thermocollant2.jpg 800w, https:\/\/sacotin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/tuto-molleton-thermocollant2-501x376.jpg 501w, https:\/\/sacotin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/tuto-molleton-thermocollant2-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1974\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">From left to right : Vilene\/Vlieseline H640, Vilene\/Vlieseline H630 and generic fusible fleece<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Vilene ones are more &#8220;elegant&#8221; and of slightly better quality but the difference is not big enough in my opinion to justify the price difference.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>I carry samples of various fusible interfacings with me when I go to the fabric store, which allows me to compare with generic interfacings and to usually find a cheaper substitute.<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1973\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1973\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sacotin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/tuto-molleton-thermocollant1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1973 \" src=\"http:\/\/sacotin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/tuto-molleton-thermocollant1.jpg\" alt=\"De bas en haut H640, H630 et &quot;g\u00e9n\u00e9rique&quot;. The H630 et generic fusible fleece are almost identical, only the price differs.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Using fusible fleece<\/h2>\n<p><strong>It is essential, in my opinion, to first fuse some regular interfacing to the wrong side of your fabric<\/strong>. Why? There are two reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Look at the pic below :<\/span> <strong>left is a fabric with regular fusible interfacing + fusible fleece and right is a fabric with fusible fleece only<\/strong>. See the bloated, wavy (and ugly ^ ^) aspect that the fabric takes when you apply fusible fleece directly ? Applying a layer of regular fusible interfacing first will prevent this.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The other reason is that, particularly for bags, this extra thickness of stabilizer further improves the firmness and durability of the bag.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>However<\/strong>, note that if the fusible fleece is only applied to the lining of your bag and not to the outer fabric, the addition of a regular interfacing base is not as important because the wavy aspect won&#8217;t be visible to anyone but you.<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1970\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1970\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sacotin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/tuto-molleton-thermocollant5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1970  \" src=\"http:\/\/sacotin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/tuto-molleton-thermocollant5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sacotin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/tuto-molleton-thermocollant5.jpg 700w, https:\/\/sacotin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/tuto-molleton-thermocollant5-501x376.jpg 501w, https:\/\/sacotin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/tuto-molleton-thermocollant5-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1970\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Left : <strong>with<\/strong> a preliminary layer of interfacing &#8211; Right : <strong> without<\/strong> a preliminary layer of interfacing (fleece fused directly to the fabric)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Steps<\/h3>\n<p>1. Fuse a regular interfacing to the wrong side of your fabric piece.<\/p>\n<p>2. Cut your fusible fleece to the dimensions of your piece <strong>minus<\/strong> the seam allowances.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>It is important to remove the seam allowances<\/em><\/strong> from the fleece, this will reduce the bulk at the seams and the overall finish will be neater. For the <a title=\"Boutique\" href=\"http:\/\/sacotin.com\/en\/boutique\/\">Sac\u00f4tin patterns<\/a>, included seam allowances are 1cm (3\/8&#8243;).<\/p>\n<p>3. Spread a damp pressing cloth <strong>over<\/strong> the fleece. <\/strong>I use a white smooth cotton thoroughly wet but not dripping.
