Pressing faux leather, to open a seam for example, is possible\u00a0and the end result will be greatly improved, but\u00a0some precautions are necessary.<\/p>\n

So here is a\u00a0pressing faux leather tutorial<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Necessary\u00a0precautions<\/h1>\n
\n
\u2022 Set the pressing iron on\u00a0synthetic and without\u00a0<\/strong>steam<\/strong><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0Always use a dry pressing cloth<\/strong>\u00a0between the iron\u00a0sole and the faux leather.<\/div>\n
\u2022 Press from the wrong side if possible.<\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0Always\u00a0test on a scrap beforehand.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Pressing faux leather tutorial<\/h1>\n

For this tutorial I’m simply going to press a seam open on a piece of faux leather.<\/p>\n

We can see in the pictures below that\u00a0the appearance of the seam leaves much to be desired if left as is :<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Step 1<\/span>–<\/strong>\u00a0Lay\u00a0a dry pressing cloth over the faux leather<\/strong>\u00a0wrong side.<\/strong>\u00a0If \u00a0you want to open a seam, make sure that the seam allowances are opened under the pressing cloth.<\/div>\n

Lay a dry pressing cloth over the faux leather<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
Step 2<\/span>–<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>Press with your iron<\/strong>,\u00a0set on\u00a0synthetic and without steam,\u00a0\u00a0for a few seconds (usually 10 to 15 seconds but\u00a0always test for\u00a0your<\/strong>\u00a0faux leather).<\/div>\n

Remove iron and cloth.<\/p>\n

Step 3<\/span>–<\/strong>This last little\u00a0<\/strong>step makes all the difference and will set the seam :\u00a0<\/strong>While your faux leather is still warm, place a heavy book (dictionary, War and Peace,…) on\u00a0the faux leather for thirty seconds.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Take off the book and surprise !<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Repeat the steps \u00a0for the remaining part of the seam.<\/p>\n

Voil\u00e0 a perfectly pressed faux leather seam for a neat finish !<\/strong><\/p>\n
