A charming backpack for children or adults, full of personality
With its ears, it becomes a charming backpack with ears, ideal for little ones and older children alike. Without the ears, it becomes a more understated backpack.
Cotillon accompanies children to daycare, preschool, or on outings, and can also be used by adults in everyday life.
A backpack for daycare or preschool
The Small size was designed for young children. Its dimensions make it particularly suitable as a daycare backpack or preschool backpack, easy for little ones to carry.
Two closure options are included:
- an elasticated closure, easy to use and ideal for helping young children be more independent
- a drawstring closure, for a more secure closure
In both versions, Cotillon also closes with a magnetic flap.
A customizable backpack with ears
The pattern includes 3 ear shapes to customize your children’s backpack:
- fawn
- rabbit
- bear
You can also make Cotillon without ears for a more understated backpack, suitable for older children or adults.
Practical details for everyday use
A name tag is included under the flap to make the backpack easy to identify, a practical detail for a daycare or preschool backpack
Its reinforced bottom provides extra structure and durability.
Inside, Cotillon features a zippered pocket for storing little treasures, tissues, keys, or other small items.

Dimensions :
- Cotillon Small: W 20 cm (7 7/8”) x H 26 cm (10 1/4”) x D 10 cm (3 7/8”) – Ideal for daycare, preschool, and short outings
- Cotillon Medium: W 26 cm (10 1/4”) x H 30 cm (11 7/8”) x D 12 cm (4 3/4”) – Roomier for older children, weekends at the grandparents’, or everyday adult use
Cotillon pattern skill level
The Cotillon backpack pattern was rated mostly beginner by the testers, but I gave it an advanced beginner level, meaning between beginner and intermediate, because in my opinion the zippered pocket and shoulder strap assembly make it just a little more challenging.
Videos to guide you
I filmed and edited 2 videos to guide you through sewing your Cotillon backpack.
They show how to assemble the Cotillon bag in size Small, without voice-over. The assembly method is the same for size Medium. Any size-specific details for Medium are, of course, indicated in the PDF.
I have therefore demonstrated how to assemble Cotillon in 2 videos:
- the 1st for assembling the outer bag,
- the 2nd for assembling the lining and finishing.
The videos are divided into chapters for quick access to the part of the assembly you want to see.

- Fabric #3: beige vinyl.
- Lining: petrol blue polka dot cotton.
Cotillon Medium – Denim and vinyl
Cotillon Medium: W 26 cm (10 1/4”) x H 30 cm (11 7/8”) x D 12 cm (4 3/4”)
- No ears
- Drawstring closure
- Fabric #1 and #2: zebra-print denim interfaced with G700.
- Fabric #3: iridescent black vinyl.
- Lining: navy blue polka dot cotton.
