A clever assembly for neat details
For the bottom seam, I developed a new technique, and a specific pattern piece, which allows to get neat corners with an easy assembly.

Folk is a compact and functional bag with 4 pockets
Folk has an adjustable strap to be worn crossbody and have free hands, without risking the bag falling off.
Folk has 4 pockets:
- 1 patch pocket with flap on the front, closed with a magnetic snap
- 1 zippered pocket on the back
- 1 patch pocket inside
- 1 zippered pocket inside

Folk in 2 sizes!
The pattern includes 2 sizes : Small, a compact bag to carry your essentials, Medium for a more spacious bag in which you can slip a tablet, for example.

- Folk Small : width 20.5 cm (8″) x height 22.5 cm (8 7/8″) x depth 7 cm (2 3/4″).
- Folk Medium : width 25.5 cm (10″) x height 27.5 cm 10 7/8″) x depth 7 cm (2 3/4″).

Level and style
I’ve rated the Folk pattern as intermediate level.
The 17 testers of the Folk pattern ranked it almost half and half in a lower than intermediate level and in a upper than intermediate level (with a small advantage to the lower than intermediate level). Nobody ranked it as an advanced level.
So I took the average and ranked it as intermediate. It is also the level that seems the fairest to me, due to the zippered closure and the different pocket techniques.
In terms of style, its sober silhouette also lends itself to unisex versions according to the majority of testers.

Folk Medium corduroy
- Fabric: “Vérone” vinyl in taupe.
- Contrast fabric: “Starsky ” corduroy in blue (interfaced with G700).
- Lining: “Palladium” cotton in yellow.
- Interfacing: one layer of Vlieseline (Vilene) G700 on the corduroy as well as on the flap lining, and flexible foam on the outer bottom as per the instructions.

Folk Small black
- Fabric and Contrast : “Carlo” vinyl in black.
- Lining: black cotton and “Palladium” cotton.
- Interfacing: one layer of Vlieseline (Vilene) G700 on the flap lining only and flexible foam on the outer bottom as per the instructions.
- I knew that my machine (it’s a middle range domestic sewing machine : Janome DC4030) would have trouble with the thickness of a shoulder strap in this black vinyl, so I made a double-sided shoulder strap, as per this tutorial: Two-tone or double-sided strap Tutorial. I simply used a thin black polypropylene webbing as the narrower band.
