{Eticôtin} The luggage tag free pattern
Éticôtin is a luggage tag with privacy flap to hide your personal information.
It’s easy to customize it for each member of the family!
Éticôtin is a small project ideal for using your fabric scraps.
Cards to note personal information are included and can be printed with the pattern.
Dimensions of the closed luggage tag: width 7.5 cm (3″) x height 11 cm (4 3/8″).
2 patterns in 1 !
Eticôtin can also become a card holder (credit card, transport card, etc.), just don’t sew the loop!
What fabrics should you use to sew your luggage tag?
As always, the fabrics that I recommend for the pattern are listed in the supplies table.
If your machine does not handle thicknesses well, I advise you to use a fine quilting-type cotton for both the exterior fabric and the lining. As you will see below, this is what I used for the majority of my luggage tags. It is also the choice of fabric which will facilitate a pretty finish.
I make it an essential point to create and sew all Sacôtin patterns on a mid-range domestic sewing machine (Janome DC4030), and not on an industrial or semi-industrial one, in order to be sure that the making of the pattern is possible at home. But, as always, your choice of fabrics is decisive.

One of the tags is in vinyl on the outside and fine cotton on the inside, I interfaced the cotton piece A with Vlieseline/Vilene G700 (without the seam allowances – see instructions in the PDF page 5).
All other tags are made of fine cotton (quilting type) inside and out. For these luggage tags, I interfaced the 2 pieces A with Vlieseline/Vilene G700 (without the seam allowances – see instructions in the PDF page 5).
I used Kam plastic snaps for all the luggage tags.
Fabrics used
- Pink luggage tag : Vinyl pink glitter (it’s fine and easy to sew) for the exterior – Liberty Tana Lawn Zachary for the interior, the tab and the loop.
- Pink initials luggage tag : Gray cotton from Stoffabrics “Melange” collection in Graphite for exterior and interior. The initials are in pink flex glitter.
- Mustaches luggage tag : Mustache printed cotton “Menswear Mustaches Black” by Timeless Treasures for exterior and interior. I’ve had this scrap for a long time, I don’t know if the print can still be found.
- Flowers luggage tag : Liberty Betsy green cotton (sometimes also listed in aqua or turquoise color) for exterior and interior. I fused 2 layers of interfacing on the outer piece A and one layer on the inner piece A.
- Anchors luggage tag : Anchor Party cotton by Poppy for exterior and interior.
- Rider luggage tag : “Rider” printed cotton from La Mercerie des Créateurs for exterior and interior.
